Herb of the Week: Aloe

We all know what aloe is, right? That weird looking, pointy leaf plant that Grandma kept on her window sill. Whenever you had a cut or scratch, she would cut a piece of aloe, split it open, and apply this clear, slimy substance on you. It was gross then, but now I understand the power of this plant.
Aloe, a native plant of Africa, has many uses. It is mostly used to heal wounds or burns quickly. But many people use aloe internally as a laxative. Aloe is also claimed to help lower cholesterol, increase blood vessel generation in the lower extremities, soothe an irritated stomach and is good for skin disorders such as eczema.
Pure aloe isn’t very tasty. It is actually quite bitter. But in the proper mix of juice, it becomes more palatable. I love keeping an aloe plant around for those minor cuts and scrapes that the kids somehow acquire. It’s a strong, sturdy plant and seems to never die if you keep it watered a little.

I keep telling everyone school is only 15 minutes away… I forget to account for traffic. I was late to my 8:30 class this morning. I need to set my clock forward 20 minutes to get out of the door in time.

Why are all the major freeways in Dallas busy when I need to get somewhere fast?

Note to self, next semester choose classes that start after 9.

I’m still working through the information regarding Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson/Scholarship story.  The Congresswoman has admitted she was wrong in her actions and I have yet to speak with anyone in her office.  Working through it.
